Reports indicate that NBA stars, including LeBron and Curry, are considering participation in the Paris Olympics

Reports from multiple sources on Monday indicate that NBA superstars LeBron James and Stephen Curry, among others, are showing interest in representing the United States at the Paris Olympics next year.

LeBron James, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time NBA champion, has reportedly been actively recruiting fellow NBA stars to join the US team in their quest for a fifth consecutive gold medal in France, as reported by The Athletic.

On the other hand, Stephen Curry, a four-time NBA champion playing as a guard for the Golden State Warriors, has expressed his desire to participate in the Olympic squad, which is expected to be coached by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, according to ESPN.

This news follows the recent performance of a young US team composed of NBA players at the Basketball World Cup, where they failed to secure any medals, losing to Canada in the bronze-medal game and to eventual champion Germany in the semi-final.

LeBron James, who is 38 years old and plays as a forward, previously led the USA to Olympic gold in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London but has not participated in the Olympics since then.

LeBron James has experienced the disappointment of defeat on the international stage in the past. He was a reserve on the 2004 US team that won bronze at the Athens Olympics and a part of the 2006 team that also secured bronze at the Basketball World Cup.

However, James is now not only interested in pursuing Olympic gold in Paris but has actively reached out to fellow former NBA Most Valuable Players, including Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, in an attempt to persuade them to participate in the 2024 Olympics.

Kevin Durant, a two-time NBA champion who currently plays for the Phoenix Suns, will turn 35 later this month. He has contributed to US Olympic gold-medal victories in London, Rio in 2016, and Tokyo in 2021.

Stephen Curry has never played for the US Olympic team, but he has helped American clubs win the World Cup in 2010 and 2014, marking their only titles since 1994.

According to The Athletic, LeBron James has also recruited other notable players for the 2024 US Olympic team, including his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, Golden State’s Draymond Green, and Boston’s Jayson Tatum.

Furthermore, players such as Phoenix’s Devin Booker, a three-time NBA All-Star, and 38-year-old Chris Paul of Golden State, who won gold medals in 2008 and 2012, have expressed interest in participating in the Paris Olympics, as reported by ESPN.
